Hot off the successes of Marty’s television shows, film roles were being thrown his way with wild abandon. This film was an easy “yes” for Marty. It was directed by Dick Lester who was building momentum as a filmmaker on the heels of his Beatles movies. The script was based on a play that Marty had seen starring his friend and comic hero Spike Milligan and co-starring John Antrobus.
Like a lot of things Marty did, it took a while for this one to catch on but has now become a classic. Although his role was small, it became Marty’s first screen outing, co-starring Peter Cook, Dudley Moore, Michael Horton and Sir Ralph Richardson. Marty plays Nurse Arthur and he makes an immediate impression when he arrives.
